The Governor’s Office of Business Ombudsman was established by the General Assembly (House Bill 1118) and signed into law on May 15, 2014. Governor Larry Hogan appointed the first Business Ombudsman in December 2016.
In January 2018, Governor Hogan issued Executive Order 01.01.2018.04 that created the Office of Small Business Regulatory Assistance to assist small businesses in complying with the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act and other laws related to labor and employment. The Office of Small Business Regulatory Assistance was also created to handle the duties that were previously assigned to the Business Ombudsman.
